The classical music corner of the Internet was a-buzz this morning at the news that the NYPhil named Jaap van Sweden as Alan Gilbert’s successor.  (Anne Midgette, of the Washington Post, has her thoughts here, and Amanda Angel of NYC’s classical station, WQXR, has her thoughts here.)  Though not surprising, that they didn’t choose one of the many up and coming women conductors making headlines as of late was still disappointing.

The festival will take place March 10-13 and feature the works of composer-in-residence Jessica Meyer and ensemble-in-residence Nautilus Brass Quintet. The multi-day event will feature papers and presentations, workshops, panel discussions, and – of course – concerts featuring works by women.  Those lucky enough to attend will have the opportunity to be immersed in a 12 hour marathon of live music by contemporary and historic women composers!

We are also delighted that WPA President, Liane Curtis, was invited to give a presentation on her work advocating for the music of women composers.

Learn more about the upcoming festival here – including the winners of the Call for Scores.  No doubt it’s going to be a fantastic event and is not to be missed!
