Some news to start your week!

It was announced earlier this year that the coming Cabrillo Festival will be Marin Alsop’s last.  NewMusicBox has a great piece on how the festival has evolved during Alsop’s tenure – read more here.

The Meet the Composer podcast, done by Nadia Sirota and presented by WQXR has presented fascinating conversations with some of the greatest living composers – including Kaija Saariaho, Meredith Monk, and Caroline Shaw.  The Guardian introduced readers to Sirota and explains why you should listen – if you don’t already.

Though we primarily discuss composers, conductors, and musicians, we can’t forget the monumental task of being a music administrator.  It is notable that the Chicago Symphony elected Helen Zell as Board Chair – the first woman to hold the position.  Read more about her, and the work she has already to support the orchestra, here.
