Here’s hoping everyone had a meaningful and safe holiday!  And now some news to start your week!

Coming from roots in The Women’s Philharmonic, it’s thrilling to hear about the founding of a new all-woman orchestra.  The Allegra Chamber Orchestra is based out of Vancouver, Canada.  The CBC has the story – read online here, or listen below:

Bob Shingleton at On An Overgrown Path, spring boarding off the story of the new Allegra Chamber Orchestra, writes about Kathleen Riddick – the founder of Riddick String  Orchestra, and the first woman to conduct in London’s Royal Festival Hall.  Read the post in full here!

And another new orchestra has been established: The Refugee Orchestra Project, based in NYC, strives to highlight the ways that refugees play an important role in American culture, and American arts.  The founder, Artistic Director, and Conductor of the orchestra is Lidiya Yankovskaya, who understands the struggle of refugees – she, herself, fled Russia when she was a child.  Read more here.
