News to start your week!

A new opera by Missy Mazzoli premiered in Philadelphia this past weekend.  The work, Breaking the Waves, is based on a film by the same name Lars von Trier film.  Mazzoli spoke to NPR’s morning edition this past weekend.  Read the conversation online, or listen below:

The Guardian has a review of a new album by composer, accordionist & improviser Pauline Oliveros.  The album, which is a collaboration with several Norwegian musicians, and released on the Atterklang label, received 4/5 stars.  Read the full review here.

Also from The Guardian is a look into their archives, and a review from May 1856 from a performance by Clara Schuamnn.  Unfortunate that it appears that she did not include any of her own works in the concert – but I don’t think the reviewer could have written higher praise of her performance!  Read the review in full here.

Anne Midgette of The Washington Posts shared a thoughtful piece about the new Museum of African American History and their mission to include ‘African American Music’ – and what that might look like.  An important part of the conversation about the importance of diversity, and inclusion, in classical music programming.  Read the piece here.
