News to start your week!

The third episode of the Listening to Ladies podcast is live!  Listen here to a conversation with composer and sound artist Anna Höstman.

The New York Philharmonic performed a new work by Kaija Saariaho at the Park Avenue Armory this past week.  The Guardian has a review.  (Friday also marked Saariaho’s birthday!  Find out more composer birthdays with the WPA Calendar!)

No doubt as a reflection upon this concert, Alex Ross featured a “Saariaho Moment” on his blog.

Madeline Smith is already an experienced conductor at age 24.  Now, Playbill has announced that she will be the youngest woman to conduct on Broadway when she takes the baton for the current production of Waitress.  (It is also notable that Waitress has an all-female creative team.)  Read more here.

Clair Chase, founder of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) is stepping down from her role.  The New York Times has a profile of her work as a performer and arts administrator.
