June is Black Music Month and Bitch Magazine is helping readers celebrate – including this list of classical composers.

In honor of Queen Elizabeth’s birthday, Sally Groves (among others) was named to the Order of the British Empire for her service to Music.  Groves is the creative director for Schott Music.  Full list of honorees here.

There is a new recording of Felix Mendelssohn’s Trios, which was named Norman Lebrecht’s Album of the Week.  And while the work of Fanny Mendelssohn doesn’t appear on the album, Lebrecht does use his review to discuss the relationship between the siblings and the inequality in expectations when it came to Fanny’s compositions.  Read the full review here.
