This weekend one of our Performance Grant winners, the Lancaster Symphony in Pennsylvania, will honor the life and work of Tina Davidson, recipient of this year’s Composer Award, given annually by the Lancaster Symphony to a contemporary classical composer for the past 55 years.  The concert will feature a collaboration with local strings students on First Light, as well as the World Premiere of Barefoot for string orchestra.

The concert is titled “Of Significance” – and we couldn’t agree more.  Davidson is a prolific and often-commissioned composer whose compositions span from chamber pieces to operas.  She was recently hand selected by Hilary Hahn to compose a work to be included on her Grammy-winning album, “In 27 Pieces: The Hilary Hahn Encores”, which is available on iTunes.  (Davidson’s piece is “Blue Curve of the Earth”.)

There will be four performances of the concert over this weekend, so there are plenty of opportunities to see these great works!  Learn more, and buy tickets, at the Lancaster Symphony website.  Congratulations to the Lancaster Symphony for their great programming, community collaborations, and recognition of Tina Davidson’s contributions to the contemporary classical music canon!
