In honor of St. Patrick’s Day – arguably, one of American’s favorite holidays to celebrate – here is “Irish Love Song” by Margaret Ruthvan Lang.

Lang was the first American woman to have an orchestral composition performed – her Dramatic Overture was performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1893.  She went on to write other orchestral works, but is remembered today (if at all) for her songs and piano works – she destroyed all of her orchestral works.

The Hampsong Foundation has a great article with more information about Lang’s fascinating life (she died just short of her 105th birthday!) and work.
